While the World Cup has brought great acclaim to South Africa’s soccer community, not all soccer players are allowed to bask in this light. You see, South Africa is still a very patriarchal and homophobic society. Hence, being a gay female soccer player can have dire consequences. The New York Times takes onto the field and into the lives of “The Chose Ones” South Africa’s first openly gay women’s soccer team.
