Japan Plans Holographic Displays For 2022 World Cup Bid
Forget about 3D TVs, Japan has upped the ante in their bid to win hosting rights to the 2022 World Cup. Technologists on the island nation are proposing “ultra-realistic holographic broadcasts” that will allow soccer fans around the world to watch the game as if it is happening in the stadium before their very eyes. To sweeten the deal Japan plans to offer fans a universal language translation device similar to those seen in the television show Star Trek. Thus, allowing people from various nationalities to communicate during the games. Capitalizing on the explosion of smart phones available, they will also have ARGs in place to give contextual information about venues in and around the games.
I’m routing for Japan to host the games just to see how much of this they can actually pull off. What do you think, are they promising more than they can deliver?
