‘The Roots’ Jimmy Fallon Show

Two turntables and a mike have been the staple instruments of hiphop over the course of it’s formative years. As the musical movement grew, one group in particular ‘The Roots’ chose to break that mold and go with real instruments to back lead rapper Black Thought’s vocals. Today the 20 year music veterans are considered the premier hiphop band in the world. That designation landed them the gig as house band for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Melena Ryzik of The New York Times interviews drummer Questlove about  a day in the life of his prolific band and how they balance a hectic touring, recording and performing schedule while holding down their job as the coolest band on late night television.
