It is a commonly held belief that we the people of the 21 century are in fact evolved superiors to our predecessors. But on closer inspection it becomes apparent that we’ve lost our way. The modern moral compass is out of whack, image is everything and substance is lacking. Somewhere along the way we lost our personal creativity in exchange for ultra-modern perfection, this can be best summed up in the design and furnishings of our homes. Cable television shows have infiltrated our living rooms purveying the home layout of the future. We are meant to believe that stainless steel appliances are a must have, flat screens need to be mounted to walls and bamboo is the new wood. Form has superseded function. How do we then counteract this crisis of taste?
“In this funny and insightful talk from TEDxHouston, builder Dan Phillips tours us through a dozen homes he’s built in Texas using recycled and reclaimed materials in wildly creative ways. Brilliant, low-tech design details will refresh your own creative drive.”
