Mobile phone carriers have been salivating over the prospect of getting a slice of the lucrative ISP business. In the past, major cable companies like Comcast had the technological advantage of high speed lines and fiber optics. However, a change is brewing in the industry. The mobile carriers have spent the billions necessary to roll out the latest in wireless high speed internet technology. In industry advertising jargon the new protocol is known as 4G (based on LTE technology) and they are promising speeds comparable to cable broadband.
