Today the Droid brand is as strong as ever and Motorola is taking it further with the announcement of the Droid Bionic at this year’s CES 2011.
A brief history of the ‘Droid’ brand:
As hand held manufactures defected in droves to the Android OS, Motorola masterfully aligned its product name with Google’s open source Android platform for mobile devices. Motorola played off the name of Google’s OS with the debut of their ‘Droid’ line of phones for Verizon. Following a multi-million dollar ad campaign featuring the cybernetic glowing red eye, Motorola cemented itself as the preeminent Android device maker. The rest as they say is history, the ad campaign took on a life of it’s own and phone sales sky rocketed.
Fast forward to today and Motorola is set to roll out the next major phone in the series, the Doid Bionic.
