Nikon has revealed its new D5100 camera that is being positioned as the DSLR for the advanced beginner. In essence this camera is for the intermediary photographer who isn’t yet ready to drop several thousand dollars on a pro DSRL. With a MSRP of $899.95 (Kit Price) including lens, the D5100 is priced for the budget conscious.
The main selling point of this mid level camera is the 16.2 m DX-format CMOS sensor which allows for capturing more light. Getting a sensor of that size in a sub $1000 DSLR is a win for the consumer.
Nikon has also included an updated thinner Vari-Angle LCD monitor, new HDR shooting modes and an overall lighter camera body to make the D5100 a worthy update to the product line.
