Samsung has announced the first set of Chrome OS based laptops at the Google iO 2011 event in San Francisco. The laptop will not feature a standard operating system ala Windows or Mac OS. Instead Google has developed a completely browser based operating system for laptops. The user essential interacts with the laptop through the Chrome Web browser hence the name Chrome OS. There will be no need to download applications for word processing or spreadsheets etc, as all software will be cloud based and accessed through the browser.
The Samsung Chromebook is shaping up to be what netbooks should have been, a lightweight laptop with a mobile OS that takes advantage of cloud based software.
Samsung Chromebook Series 5:
- Will use the Intel based Atom processor for fast performance and extend battery life.
- Lighting fast shut down and boot sequence, just lift the lid to start.
- Cellular and wifi based internet connections.
- Full HD display and video playback.
- All apps automatically sync and load when the Chromebook is opened up.
- Users are immediately logged into their Gmail accounts.
- Guest account mode doesn’t store user data or browsing history, allows for anonymous use.
